Placement Examinations for Graduates of Higher Education


ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024

In accordance with Ministerial Decision Φ1/192329/Β3/16-12-2013 (Government Gazette 3185/Β/2013) “Procedure for the Admission of University Degree Holders,” Ministerial Decision 92983/Ζ1/11.6.2015 (Government Gazette 1329/Β/2.7.2015), and Law 3186/2013, candidates wishing to participate in the examinations must submit the following supporting documents exclusively by post, either by registered mail or courier service (with a postmark or courier stamp), during the period from Wednesday, November 1, 2023, to Wednesday, November 15, 2023, to the following address :

Please note: Documents sent before or after the specified dates will not be considered valid and will not be accepted.

Required documents:

  1. Application form (completed by the applicant)
  2. A photocopy of the degree certificate or a certificate of completion of studies. In the case of graduates from institutions abroad, an official certificate of equivalence of the degree must also be submitted, issued by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (DOATAP) or the competent authority responsible for the recognition of academic degrees.
  3. Two (2) passport-style photographs
  4. A photocopy of a valid national ID card or passport

 

The placement examinations for university degree holders will be held during the current academic year from Monday, December 4 to Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the School’s facilities located at 256 Piraeus Street, from 08:00 to 12:30 on the first day and from 08:30 to 12:30 on all subsequent days.

The admission quota for degree holders from Universities (HEIs), Technological Educational Institutes (TEIs) or other equivalent institutions, ASPETE, in Greece or abroad (recognised by DOATAP), as well as for graduates of Higher Vocational Schools (post-secondary two-year or over-two-year programs) under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs or other Ministries, is set at 12% of the total number of admitted students.

                                                                    

PLACEMENT EXAMINATIONS
ACADEMIC YEAR 2023–2024

I.  Admission quota for transfer students

According to Ministerial Decision Φ1/192329/Β3/16.12.2013 (Government Gazette 3185/Issue B’), regarding the “Placement Procedure for Higher Education Graduates,” the admission quota for transfer students -i.e., degree holders from Universities (HEIs), Technological Educational Institutes (TEIs) or equivalent institutions, ASPETE, in Greece or abroad (recognised by DOATAP)- as well as for graduates of Higher Vocational Schools offering two-year or over-two-year programs under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs or other Ministries, is set at 12% of the total number of students admitted to each University Department (HEI, TEI or ASPETE) per academic year.

ΙΙ.     Method of Admission and Examination Subjects.

            The Assembly of the Department of Fine Arts of the Athens School of Fine Arts, in its session of June 10, 2023, decided the following regarding the method of placement, the placement semester, and the examination subjects for candidates seeking admission to the Department of Fine Arts of the Athens School of Fine Arts, who are degree holders from the aforementioned categories, for the academic year 2023–2024:

Α.    UNIVERSITY GRADUATES (HEIs)

A.1a. Graduates of the Department of Fine Arts of the Athens School of Fine Arts or equivalent Departments of Fine Arts from other Schools of Fine Arts in Greece – (These candidates are exempt from the obligation to attend and be examined in the first four semester laboratory courses of the studio specialisation).

Interested candidates must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 works (colour – composition – drawing), without their name indicated on the artworks. The portfolio should also include works related to the candidate’s chosen field of specialisation.

The portfolio must be submitted to the Secretariat of the Department of Fine Arts together with the application.

A.1b. Graduates of the University of Ioannina (Department of Fine Arts and Sciences of Art)

The Assembly of the Department of Fine Arts of the Athens School of Fine Arts (i.e., the host department) decides on the number of semester-long studio specialisation courses that may be recognised or waived, after reviewing the official transcript of records submitted by the candidate – graduate of the University of Ioannina – listing the courses undertaken.

Candidates will undergo placement examinations over a period of four (4) days, during which they will be assessed as follows:

i. Candidates seeking placement in the Painting Studios will be examined in:

  • (a) a colour exercise from a cast (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm),
  • (b) a drawing exercise based on a verbal theme (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm), and
  • (c) must submit a portfolio of 10 to 15 works (colour – composition – drawing) without any personal identification (name, etc.), on the final day of the examination.

ii. Candidates seeking placement in the Sculpture or Printmaking Studios will be examined in:

(c) must submit a portfolio of 10 to 15 works (colour – composition – drawing) without any personal identification (name, etc.), on the final day of the examination.

(a) a drawing exercise from a cast (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm),

(b) a drawing exercise based on a verbal theme (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm), and

A.1c. Graduates of equivalent and cognate foreign institutions
(These graduates are exempt from attending and taking exams in the first four semester-long laboratory specialisation courses).

Candidates will undergo placement examinations lasting four (4) days and will be tested as follows:

i. Candidates seeking placement in the Painting Studios will be examined in:
(a) a colour exercise from a cast (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm),
(b) a drawing exercise based on a verbal theme (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm), and
(c) must submit a portfolio of 10 to 15 works (colour – composition – drawing) without any personal identification (name, etc.), on the final day of the examinations.

ii. Candidates seeking placement in the Sculpture or Printmaking Studios will be examined in:
(a) a drawing exercise from a cast (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm),
(b) a drawing exercise based on a verbal theme (paper dimensions: 50 x 70 cm), and
(c) must submit a portfolio of 10 to 15 works (colour – composition – drawing) without any personal identification (name, etc.), on the final day of the examinations.

A.2. Graduates of Domestic Architecture Schools and Equivalent or Recognised Architecture Schools Abroad
(These graduates are exempt from attending and taking exams for the first two semesters of the laboratory specialisation course).

Candidates must take placement examinations lasting four (4) days, during which they will be tested as follows:

i. Candidates applying for admission in the Painting Studios will be examined on:
(a) a colour exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.

ii. Candidates applying for admission in the Sculpture or Printmaking Studios will be examined on:
(a) a drawing exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.


A.3. Graduates of All Other Domestic Higher Education Institutions (AEI), and Equivalent Foreign AEI Schools

Candidates must take placement examinations lasting four (4) days, during which they will be tested as follows:

i. Candidates applying for admission in the Painting Studios will be examined on:
(a) a colour exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.

ii. Candidates applying for admission in the Sculpture or Printmaking Studios will be examined on:
(a) a drawing exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (canvas or paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations

B. Graduates of Technological Educational Institutes (T.E.I.) or Equivalent Institutions, A.S.PA.I.T.E. of Greece or Abroad (recognised by D.O.A.T.A.P.)

B.1. Graduates of T.E.I. in Graphic Design, Graphic Designers from KATEE, T.E.I. in Interior Design, Interior Designers from KATEE, T.E.I. in Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, T.E.I. in Graphic Arts Technology, Technologists of Printing & Photomechanics from KATEE, and T.E.I. in Photography
(These graduates are exempt from attending and taking exams for the first two semesters of the laboratory specialisation course).

Candidates must take placement examinations lasting four (4) days, during which they will be tested as follows:

i. Candidates applying for admission in the Painting Studios will be examined on:
(a) a colour exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (canvas or paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.

ii. Candidates applying for admission in the Sculpture or Printmaking Studios will be examined on:
(a) a drawing exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (canvas or paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.


B.2. Graduates of All Other T.E.I. and Equivalent Institutions, Domestic and Foreign

Candidates must take placement examinations lasting four (4) days, during which they will be tested as follows:

i. Candidates applying for admission in the Painting Studios will be examined on:
(a) a colour exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (canvas or paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.

ii. Candidates applying for admission in the Sculpture or Printmaking Studios will be examined on:
(a) a drawing exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (canvas or paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.

C.    GRADUATES OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS OF ONE OR TWO-YEAR STUDY CYCLES UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE MINISTRY OF EDUCTIAON AND RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS AND OTHER MINISTRIES

         Candidates must take placement examinations lasting four (4) days, during which they will be tested as follows:      

i. Candidates applying for admission in the Painting Studios will be examined on:
(a) a colour exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (canvas or paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.

ii. Candidates applying for admission in the Sculpture or Printmaking Studios will be examined on:
(a) a drawing exercise from a plaster cast (paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m),
(b) a drawing exercise from a verbal theme (canvas or paper size 0.50 x 0.70 m), and
(c) they must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 15 (maximum) works (colour – composition – drawing) without their names, on the last day of the examinations.

NOTE

  1. Candidates for admission in the Painting Division may use tempera, watercolour, acrylics, or pastels (use of oil paint is strictly prohibited) in the colour exercise from the plaster cast. The work must be executed on white matte Bristol paper weighing 300 or 280 grams, sized 0.50 x 0.70 m
  2. Candidates for admission in the Sculpture and Printmaking Division may use only pencil, charcoal, or black ink on white Elle Erre drawing paper weighing 220 grams, sized 0.50 x 0.70 m in the drawing exercise from the plaster cast.
  3. For the drawing exercise from a verbal theme, all candidates may use only pencil, charcoal, black ink, or black and white acrylic on white Elle Erre drawing paper (220 grams) or matte Bristol paper (300 or 280 grams), sized 0.50 x 0.70 m.
  4. Both types of paper, as well as the drawing board, are provided by the Athens School of Fine Arts. All other required materials must be supplied by the candidates.
  5. From the works produced during the examinations, each candidate selects and submits one (1) or two (2) drawings or colour exercises from the plaster cast and one (1) from the free composition drawing.
  6. Works created during the exams will not be returned. Only the portfolio submitted for participation will be returned. 

Candidates for admission in all the above categories must submit their application and the required supporting documents only by mail or courier, with a postmark dated between Wednesday, 1 November 2023 and Wednesday, 15 November 2023, to the following address:

Applications sent before or after these dates will be considered late and will not be accepted.

Required documents:

  1. Candidate’s application form.
  2. Photocopy of diploma or certificate of completion of studies. For graduates from foreign institutions, a certificate of equivalence issued by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (D.O.A.T.A.P., Agiou Konstantinou 54, 10437 Athens) or the competent recognition authority must be included. If the diploma does not specify a corresponding specialty, the Assembly of the Department of Visual Arts of the Athens School of Fine Arts will decide on the equivalence and relevance of the specialty.
  3. Two passport-sized photographs
  4. Photocopy of ID card or passport

The placement examinations for the current academic year will be held from Monday, 4 December 2023 to Thursday, 7 December 2023, at the School’s buildings located at 256 Pireos Street, from 8:00 to 12:30 on the first day, and from 8:30 to 12:30 on all subsequent days.
