General Information

The procedure for the selection of doctoral candidates and the requirements for the award of a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in the Department of Art Theory and History are governed by Law 4957/2022, as in force, and the Department’s current Internal Regulation, further specified by decisions of the Department Assembly.
Doctoral candidates must hold a degree from a Greek Higher Education Institution (HEI) or from a recognised equivalent institution abroad. A prerequisite for admission is possession of a Master’s Degree (Postgraduate Diploma) awarded by a domestic or foreign HEI. Graduates of undergraduate programmes from Greek or foreign HEIs that award a unified and undivided degree (integrated Master’s) in accordance with Article 78 of Law 4957/2022 are also eligible to apply for admission to the PhD programme.
Applicants must submit a completed application form to the Department Secretariat, during the months of September and February of each academic year. Applications are addressed to the Department Assembly and must include at a minimum: a) the proposed title of the doctoral dissertation, b) a short summary describing the subject of the proposed research, c) the intended language of writing (which may differ from Greek), d) the proposed dissertation supervisor, whose academic or research expertise must be relevant to the subject of the proposed dissertation. The application must be accompanied by: a detailed research proposal (up to 15 pages), a comprehensive CV, including any relevant research experience, copies of academic degrees/certificates, and documentation of foreign language proficiency.
