History of Space-History of Architecture I – 3rd Semester

The course examines European architecture from the onset of the “modern era” (1401) to the end of the “long 19th century” (1914). It addresses theoretical and architectural issues related to the Italian Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism, 19th-century urbanism, architecture of new materials, and Art Nouveau. The significance of European culture – particularly architectural culture – for the development of global artistic architecture is also analysed. Emphasis is placed on the use of audiovisual media to facilitate the presentation and understanding of these topics.
History of Space-History of Architecture II – 4th Semester

History, theory and criticism of architecture from 1870 t0 2015: The course explores American architecture, historical avant-garde movements (Futurism, Expressionism, Neoplasticism, Constructivism, Czechoslovak Cubism), the Modern Movement in Northern and Southern Europe, the International Style, post-war reconstruction, the avant-garde of the 1960s, Postmodernism, Deconstruction, and contemporary architectural expressions in 21st-century metropolises. Emphasis is placed on the use of audiovisual media to facilitate the presentation and understanding of these topics.
