Course Outline of 13th (ΙΓ’) Painting Studio

1st SEMESTER

Studio course focusing on drawing, color, and composition through drawing exercises based on studies from life (compositions – model), aimed at the approach and analysis of plastic relationships (proportions, tonal values, internal structure, axes, and organisation of the relationships that constitute the artwork).

The course is designed to cultivate foundational and advanced skills in drawing and painting through systematic engagement with a diverse array of techniques, materials, and media. The ultimate goal is the exploration and gradual development of each student’s individual skills and personal artistic idiom.

Alongside life drawing practice, students undertake a thematic project based on the concept of BLACK–WHITE. This exercise is intended to foster the study, organisation, and composition of images through non-representational, gestural, digital, linear, and geometric elements. Students are encouraged to experiment freely, combining a variety of materials to investigate the boundaries and expressive potential of each medium in dialogue with others, unconstrained by narrative representation.

Additionally, each first-year student is required to complete an individual theoretical research project focusing on the work of a significant contemporary artist. This involves a detailed study supported by monographs and online resources, culminating in the preparation of a PowerPoint presentation that traces the selected artist’s creative trajectory. The project is presented to the full studio group, serving as a platform for peer discussion, critical feedback, and the promotion of collective engagement with contemporary artistic practices.
