PANOS KOKKINIAS / Associate Professor
Government Gazette issue announcing the appointment: ΦΕΚ 1379/Γ/22.08.2019
Panos Kokkinias, 1965, Athens.
Associate Professor of Photography, Director of the Photography Studio of the Printmaking Division, Athens School of Fine Arts
In his staged photographs, Panos Kokkinias explores the relationship between human beings and the world, as well as with themselves. He investigates the manifestations of the existential question in today’s reality and how these can be recorded through photographic means. At times, his focus is on the rupture between humans and their origins, nature, while at other times on their inability to comprehend their own provenance and identity within their own creation – the city.
He has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Paris, Brussels, Rome, Madrid, Munich, Kassel, New York, Singapore, Beijing, among others). His most recent solo exhibition, Stock Images (2019), was commissioned by NEON as part of the “City Project.” His works are included in public and private collections in Europe and the U.S.
His work has been published in Greek and international editions, including his monographs Here We Are, published in the U.S. with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, and Stock Images, published by NEON.
He studied photography at the School of Visual Arts (BFA), Yale (MFA), and the Derby School of Arts (PhD), with scholarships from Yale, the Onassis Foundation, and the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY).
