OURANIA ANASTASIADOU

Ourania Anastasiadou was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. She studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), in the studio of Nikos Kessanlis, graduating with highest distinction (“Άριστα”). She pursued postgraduate studies in the United States at Gallaudet University on a scholarship awarded by the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.), earning an Advanced Master’s degree in Education with a specialisation in Deafness.

She is an active visual artist and serves as a member of the Special Teaching Staff in the Department of Visual Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts. Additionally, she is the founder and scientific director of the ASFA Accessible Education Unit, which supports students and alumni with disabilities, chronic illnesses, learning disabilities, and/or developmental conditions. In this capacity, she collaborates with a wide range of educational and cultural institutions to design and implement educational and research programmes. Her academic and professional work is further enriched by her participation in numerous European-funded projects as a scientific associate. She is a founding member of the Hellenic Sign Language Interpreters Association and served as the Artistic Director of the 1st Deaf Festival in Greece in 1999.

Her research interests lie at the intersection of art education for disabled subjects, accessibility in higher education, and contemporary visual arts practices related to the concepts of disability and heterogeneity.
