Maria Mamaliga was born in Rhodes. She studied Culture and Communication, with a specialisation in Cinema Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (MA, 2005); Chemistry and Education, at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK (MSc in Science Education, 1989); and Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (BA, 1984).
Since September 2018, she has been responsible for the film screening programme and the Film Club at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA). She organises film retrospectives, lectures, and talks, introducing films and directors to students as member of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff. She also collaborates in laboratory courses to support teaching needs.
Maria Mamaliga has also worked in the ASFA Gallery and Library and has independently undertaken teaching activities in Science Education at the Pedagogical Departments of the University of the Aegean in Rhodes.
She has translated books from English into Greek, and has linguistically and scientifically edited exhibition catalogues, art books, and magazines. She has presented papers at conferences and delivered lectures. She has published articles on cinema, visual arts, and literature in books, newspapers, and journals. Selected works include:
