PLASTER TECHNIQUES – BRONZE CASTING

THE STUDIO
In the Plaster Technique and Bronze Casting Studio, students become familiar with the techniques and processes associated with plaster and bronze, as well as with other materials such as cement, paper, rubber, special plasters, wax, aluminum, resins, and more. At the same time, they explore the relationship between these processes and the art of sculpture. Students gain an understanding of the properties of each material and the role each has played in the development of sculpture and the visual arts more broadly. To this end, the curriculum includes specialised lectures, practical exercises, and other activities such as seminars, educational visits, guest lectures, etc. The studio is equipped with a modern foundry, where students are trained in artistic casting techniques, particularly the lost-wax casting method. The Plaster Technique and Bronze Casting Studio is an mandatory elective course for sculpture students. The duration of study ranges from two to six semesters. The studio is supervised by a sculptor and Assistant Professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
