MARKOS GEORGILAKIS

Sculptor- Professor at the Department of Visual Arts/ASFA 

He was born in 1957 in Spili, Rethymno. From 1987 to 1992, he studied sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA). In 1992, he studied at the Edinburgh College of Art with an Erasmus scholarship, and from 1994 to 1996, he was a scholarship recipient of the State’s Scholarship Foundation (IKY) postgraduate programme.

Since 2000, he has been in charge of the “Plaster Casting – Bronze Casting – Metalworking” Studio at ASFA, and since 2003, he has served as a faculty member. He has held nine (9) solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. He has also organized and curated the following exhibitions: 1) “The Bronze Casting Studio of ASFA”, at the Technopolis of the City of Athens, 2010. 2) “Anthropographies – The Concept of the Cast in Art”, at the Benaki Museum (Pireos Street) and the Natural History Museum of Meteora, 2016. 3) “MASK and GAZE”, at the Institute of Contemporary Art, 2019 and 4) “SCULPTURE – BRONZE CASTING”, at the Yannis Pappas Studio/Benaki Museum, 2023. He has collaborated with university departments to deliver workshops and lectures both in Greece and abroad.
