Student Ombudsman
The institution of the Student Ombudsman was established by article 55 of Law 4009/2011 and its stated purpose is to mediate between students and professors or the HEI’s administrative services in order to deal with phenomena of mismanagement. Moreover, its aim is to uphold the principle of lawfulness and safeguard the proper functioning of the Institution. Students may submit a completed “Request for Mediation” form in which they can record any issue that concerns them, provided that this does not concern examinations and grades.
Both the head and the deputy head of the Student Ombudsman office are appointed without remuneration by the Senate and they are professors or professors emeriti of the Institution. The secretarial support of the independent office of the Student Ombudsman is entrusted to an administrative employee of the Institution.
Within the framework of his/her duties, the “Student Ombudsman”:
● Investigates cases, ex officio or following a student’s complaint, and mediates to the competent bodies of the ASFA to take action regarding the dispute.
● Requests information, documents or other evidence from the Institution’s services concerning the investigated dispute, examines people, conducts research and calls for an expert’s opinion.
● In cases of non-compliance with the principle of lawfulness or phenomena of mismanagement or disruption of the Institution’s proper functioning, the Student Ombudsman prepares a report, which is communicated to the professor concerned or to the competent administrative service, as well as to the student who submitted the complaint, and mediates by any appropriate means to resolve the issue.
● The Student Ombudsman may, by decision, archive a report deemed manifestly vague, unfounded, or unsubstantiated. If they determine that there are indications of a disciplinary offense, they refer the case to the competent disciplinary body. They ensure the publication of the findings as well as the annual report of activities on the Institution’s website, subject to the provisions of Law 4624/2019 (Government Gazette 137A/29.8.2019) “Hellenic Data Protection Authority, measures for the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and incorporation into national law of Directive (EU) 2016/680 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 and other provisions.
Mrs Kotsiou Konstantina, professor of the Dpt of Visual Arts, was appointed “Student Ombudsman”, with decision of the Senate of the ASFA on 27.12.2023.
