Accessibility Unit

ASFA’s Accessibility Unit for individuals with disabilities was established by Decision “Regulation of organisational issues and establishment of organisational units in Athens School of Fine Arts (Greek Government Gazette 806/vol. Β΄/02-02-2024), temporarily comes under the administration of the Rectorate and Public Affairs Department and until publication of the Institution’s organisational chart.
The Accessibility Unit’s mission is to ensure full participation of ASFA’s community members with disabilities and/or special educational needs in all educational, research, administrative and social activities carried out by the School.
The Unit’s responsibilities are:
- to implement ASFA’s equal accessibility plan,
- to do the following-up of the national and European legislation and the strategy for the rights of people with disabilities,
- to provide access to the educational process, in particular with appropriately accessible textbooks, educational material and interpretation,
- to support alternative examination methods for students with disabilities and special educational needs, depending on their needs and educational capabilitiesto ,
- provide individual assistive technology and facilitating e-accessibility,
- to support people with disabilities and people with special educational needs in their participation in research, in projects/programs carried out through the Special Account for Research Funds, conferences and workshops, meetings of bodies, student assemblies, artistic and sports activities,
- to ensure electronic communication for the settlement of administrative issues of people with disabilities and people with special educational needs,
- to ensure facilitating physical access for people with disabilities, in particular by providing transportation and escort services,
- to support in a psycho-emotional way and to guide people with disabilities and people with special educational needs, in collaboration with the rest of ASFA’s Student Support Structures,
- to collaborate with Education Advisers to support students with disabilities and special educational needs,
- to keep statistical data related to disability and the accessibility of ASFA’s infrastructure and services,
- to perform all other tasks specified in the School’s organisational chart and related to the scope of the Accessibility Unit.
To implement its work, the Accessibility Unit operates in the following areas of responsibility:
- Sector of inclusion in the educational and learning process
- Sector of physical accessibility
- Sector of digital accessibility
The Accessibility Unit for individuals with disabilities and for people with special educational needs of the Athens School of Fine Arts is a point of reference and collaborates with every member of the scientific and administrative staff as well as the Directorate/Department/Office/Structure of the School that has experience in accessibility issues and/or is directly linked to the provision of high quality work to the School, such as, for example, the Greek Sign Language Interpretation Service, the Department of Student Affairs, the Teaching and Learning Support Center, the Psychological and Counseling Support Center, the Technical Service, the Liaison Office, the Gender Equality Committee, the Student Ombudsman.
