Research Committee


The Research Committee is a collective elected body of the University. It is composed of representatives from both Departments of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), and Dr. Erato Hatjisavva, Rector of ASFA, has been appointed as the Chair of the Committee.

By decision of the Rector of ASFA, the composition of the Research Committee is as follows:

The composition, formation, and operation of the Research Committee are governed by the provisions of Articles 4 and 5 of Joint Ministerial Decision KA/679/1996.
The Research Committee is a five-member collective body appointed by the Rector’s Council. It is composed of elected representatives from both Departments of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) and is chaired by the Rector.
The Research Committee collaborates with institutional bodies, public services and organisations, private enterprises and individuals, as well as with international organisations related to the objectives of the Special Account for Research Funds (ELKE). It undertakes, on behalf of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), the management of available funds for the optimal development and utilisation of the School’s research, training, educational, and other activities.
Specifically, the Research Committee has the following responsibilities, which it implements and executes through its organisational Units:
a. It formulates proposals to the Senate regarding the research policy of the Institution.
b. It assists the Rectorate and the Senate in coordinating research, educational, and training projects carried out by the Departments, Divisions, Laboratories, etc., and funded through ELKE. It recommends measures to ensure ELKE’s financial resources.
c. It proposes to the Senate, in accordance with established procedures, methods for evaluating, selecting, funding, paying expenditures, and receiving deliverables from projects funded through ELKE.
d. It evaluates, selects, and approves -according to the aforementioned procedure- proposals for project funding from ELKE resources.
e. It drafts an annual scientific and financial budget and financial report for ELKE. It also provides, via reports or special publications, all necessary updates to the Rectorate, the Senate, the competent Ministries, and all stakeholders funding the projects.
f. It drafts and submits to the Senate for approval the Funding Guide, which details the procedures for monitoring and auditing ELKE’s operations and outcomes.
g. It drafts the Regulation on the Disposal of Products from ELKE projects. This regulation concerns the management of funds derived from the commercialisation of research project outputs (patents, etc.), as well as the remuneration of those holding intellectual property rights. The regulation is approved by the Senate and forms part of the current Funding Guide.
h. It commissions, with appropriate compensation, research, studies, and other tasks to the Institution’s personnel (faculty members, administrative staff, etc.) and/or to external collaborators in support of ELKE’s objectives.
i. It accepts all types of grants, donations, and contributions from third parties to ELKE and determines the specific conditions for their acceptance and allocation.
j. It seeks funding sources for ELKE and undertakes any necessary action to secure financial resources.
k. It ensures the academic community of the Institution is informed about various project funding opportunities.
l. It awards scholarships from ELKE revenues or from donations and sponsorships provided for this purpose, determining, as applicable, the amount, duration, and selection method for recipients.
m. It provides advances and financial facilities for projects when necessary to ensure smooth and uninterrupted execution.
n. It handles matters and fulfills obligations of the Institution within its remit, following decisions of the Senate.
o. It prepares a management budget for ELKE’s available funds, derived either from revenues (as per Article 7 of the Ministerial Decision ΚΑ/679/1996) or other revenue sources from resource management.
p. It hires specialised personnel for staffing the ELKE Secretariat.
q. It supervises the work of the ELKE Secretariat, appoints its Head, and determines the working conditions and remuneration of its staff.
r. It evaluates the ELKE Secretariat staff. This evaluation is conducted:
i. For the Head of the Secretariat, following a recommendation from the President of the Research Committee
ii. For other staff, following a recommendation from the Head of the Secretariat
ιθ. It establishes or abolishes/merges administrative units of the Secretariat, following the Head’s recommendation, at both organisational and spatial levels.
κ. It maintains a file of final reports of all projects managed by ELKE.


The ELKE Secretariat has the following main responsibilities:
a. Develops and implements methods to more effectively support ASFA researchers in areas within its scope of responsibility.
b. Monitors ELKE’s financial and administrative operations and proceeds with expense payments upon authorisation from the Scientific Supervisor of each project, provided the expense is explicitly included in the approved project budget. Otherwise, approval from the President of the Research Committee is also required.
c. Conducts preliminary audits of project expenses prior to payment, in accordance with current legislation, project contractual obligations, and Research Committee decisions.
d. Assists ASFA researchers in identifying funding opportunities for project financing.
e. Supports Scientific Supervisors in matters related to the management of their projects.
f. Provides advisory services to ASFA researchers on issues of intellectual (copyright and/or industrial) property and technology transfer.
g. Supports Scientific Supervisors during both the preparation and the audit phases conducted by external auditors.
h. Monitors the implementation of ELKE’s management adequacy system for the execution of co-funded projects in the Fourth Programming Period.
i. Conducts internal audits at financial and managerial levels for specific projects or specific expenses.
j. Supports the promotion of the Institution on matters within ELKE’s scope.
k. Analyses and develops, independently or in cooperation with others, the directions defined by the Research Committee or submits proposals to the Committee for new directions.
l. Provides secretarial support to the Research Committee and makes recommendations on matters within its remit.
m. Ensures the implementation of the Research Committee’s decisions in its area of responsibility.
n. Ensures the recording, in a dedicated material movement logbook, of all non-consumable materials procured using ELKE resources.
