ASFA Gallery

The Athens School of Fine Arts holds and manages an extensive art collection of significant cultural value. The foundation of the School in 1837 was accompanied by the gradual formation of a “Gallery,” centered on the artistic output of those involved in the institution’s educational processes.

The collection comprises over 9,000 visual artworks across various media, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, icon painting, photography, drawing, and more. These works span a broad historical period, from the 19th century to the present day.

The Gallery’s collection features representative works by ASFA faculty members and by students of the Department of Visual Arts, many of whom were awarded prizes in national competitions or submitted their work as part of their final thesis. The collection also includes works by prominent artists donated to the School, as well as a significant number of copies -both sculptural and painted- of Greek folk art, created by students during educational field trips under the supervision of their instructors.

In this sense, the Gallery stands as a living testament to the history of the Athens School of Fine Arts and, by extension, to an essential part of modern Greek art.

The collection continues to grow, regularly enriched by works submitted by the School’s graduates.

Any publication of works from the collection, in any form, requires prior approval from the Athens School of Fine Arts.
