Nina (Matrona) Paleou
Nina (Matrona) Paleou studied at the University of Athens, School of Philosophy. She obtained a Master’s degree in Modern Greek Studies at the University of London (King's College) and PhD in Modern Greek Literature at the University of Birmingham. Her thesis entitled “Criticism, Poetry and Ideological Commitment: C.P. Cavafy and the Greek Left (1950-1974)” examines the reception of C. P. Cavafy's poetry by the Greek Left with a particular focus on the issue of ideological commitment as it is presented in literary criticism and poetry. She focuses on Greek and European Literature of the 20th century, especially poetry and prose fiction. Her research interests include the reception of literature, the history of ideas, women’s writing as well as literary periodical press. She teaches History of European Literature at Greek Open University (Associate Lecturer).
